To Forgive Is to Love and to Love Is to Forgive

Did you know that when you forgive someone you are demonstrating a form of love? In fact, “forgiveness is love,” which is why it is so powerful.
There are various scriptures in the bible that connect forgiveness to love in so many different ways. For example, Proverbs 17:9 states, “Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.” In this case when you “cover” an offense you are forgiving that offense and are therefore seeking love.
Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Christ’s death makes forgiveness of our sins possible and this is how God demonstrated His love for us. Likewise, when we forgive someone for hurting or offending us, we emulate God’s example of showing love.
The late Nobel Peace Prize winner Mother Teresa said, “If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive.” And, the late author and poet Maya Angelou once said, “You can't forgive without loving. And I don't mean sentimentality. I don't mean mush.” These extraordinary women knew that love and forgiveness are one and the same. To forgive is to love and to love is to forgive.
